Centre for Research on Violence

LaMarsh Centre in Canada is mandated to support, conduct and disseminate the results of research on violence and conflict resolution in a broad sense.

From its inception, the general aim of the centre has been to carry out research that is relevant to the social concerns of the residents of Ontario and beyond.

The LaMarsh Centre for Research on Violence and Conflict Reso-lution was established at York University in 1980 with assistance from the Ontario Government.

Named after the late politician, Member of Parliament, lawyer, and author Judy LaMarsh, it is dedicated to encouraging research that explores the themes of violence and conflict resolution in Canadian society.

Based in the Faculty of Arts at York University, it is an association of faculty, graduate students and professional community mem-bers. The Centre also supports a publishing program for research reports and the Michael D. Smith Resource Centre.
